The recent COVID-19 lockdown restrictions in Victoria serve as a timely reminder for Catholic school communities to remain vigilant ensure that plans for the possible reintroduction of restrictions and lockdowns are up to date and can be implemented at short notice.
With increased COVID-19 cases identified and a rapidly expanding list of exposure locations across Victoria, school authorities should be alert to the risks of those travelling to or from interstate and risk manage events, school operations and any planned school travel accordingly.
You can access the most up to date information on the Queensland Government website here. This includes important information testing requirements for those who have recently travelled from Victoria and what further restrictions remain in place for those travellers.
A list of interstate hotspots and exposure venues has also been provided on the Queensland Government website here.
Register now for the QCEC 2021 Student Protection Inservice
Registrations are now open for the QCEC 2021 Student Protection Inservice on Friday, 23 July at the ACU Leadership Centre in Brisbane.
The Forum will focus on strategies and leadership to make schools safe places and ways to support and respond to students impacted by complex trauma. The aim of the Forum is to provide attendees with up-to-date and challenging information from professionals in the student protection area.

RI/PJP Principals meeting and Directors Forum
On Monday the RI/PJP Principals held their quarterly meeting to discuss current matters impacting Queensland Catholic school communities.
Acting Executive Director, Chris Woolley, chaired the meeting and introduced Australian Catholic University’s National Head of School Education, Professor Donna King.
Items discussed included the commencement of Failure to Report and Failure to Protect Provisions in Child Protection legislation, the Professional Experience Database, and the Non-Government Reform Support Fund.
Diocesan Directors held their regular meeting last Friday to discuss current issues.
QCEC will host the NAPLAN Online Readiness Forum tomorrow for RI/PJP schools and EREA Flexible Learning Centres transitioning to NAPLAN Online in 2022.
These are the final group of schools to transition to the online form of NAPLAN.
Topics will include NAPLAN online national and state resources; school, staff and student readiness; test administration authority support, and; planning for the transition to online assessment.
This year 95 per cent of Queensland Catholic schools took the test online. This is the largest participation rate of any sector in Queensland.
Lee-Anne recently attended the 2021 Education Future Forum which gave educational leaders and practitioners an insight into the future of educational leadership and how the future of work will shape today’s students.
The event highlighted the importance of creating a culture of wellbeing in school communities. It also showcased findings from social research agency McCrindle’s 2021 Education Future report after more than 1,200 students were surveyed nationally to gain an insight into the teaching styles that impact their learning most and how students envision their future.

Bicentenary of Catholic Education in Australia Mass
Catholic school communities across the country gathered on Monday, 24 May to attend a Mass to celebrate the Bicentenary of Australian Catholic education.
Lee-Anne and QCEC Chair Margaret White attended the Brisbane Mass at St Stephen’s Cathedral at the invitation of Brisbane Catholic Education.
Masses were held in all Queensland dioceses and it was wonderful to see celebrations as unique as each of our regions. You can view the gallery below.















It was a joyous and momentous occasion nationally to celebrate the rich and vibrant history of Catholic education in Australia which has now grown to serve over 777,000 students.

Nominations are now open for the 2021 Queensland College of Teachers TEACHX Awards. These annual awards celebrate the outstanding contributions of teachers across all Queensland school sectors.
The areas for nomination include Beginning to Teach, Excellence, Innovation, Leadership, Community and Outstanding Contribution to Teaching.

Spirit of Catholic Education Awards 2021
Nominations for the 2021 Spirt of Catholic Education Awards have closed and all nominations have been collated and delivered to judging panels who are meeting to consider this year’s recipients.
